The Luca Cumani team is in Dubai and preparations for their 2010 Dubai International Racing Carnival debuts are well under way. Cumani’s stable includes winners from the 2009 DIRC, Presvis and Swop, the former who went on to great success following his Dubai runs. Presvis was second in the 2009 Dubai Duty Free (G1) before winning the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup (G1) and then second in the Singapore International Airlines Cup (G1).
Also in the barn are Summit Surge and Fiery Lad, former DIRC runners. Drunken Sailor, a Dubai newcomer, registered two wins and three seconds from eight 2009 starts in the care of Paul Flynn, and is likely for some of the longer turf races. According to the report on Cumani’s website, “all of them are intended runners at the end of this month or the first week in February.”
Cumani was tied for fifth in the 2009 DIRC trainer standings.
