A capacity crowd of more than 30,000 are expected at Kranji Racecourse in sweltering conditions for the 2010 Singapore International Airlines Cup (G1) meeting. On course, it is currently 2:35 P.M. and we are approximately 20 minutes from first post of a ten race card. Steamy, sweltering, and tropical are all words to possibly explain the current weather, which is crying out for a storm. AccuWeather.com reports the conditions in Singapore as 36C/97F with a “RealFeel” temperature of 46C/116F – and I can vouch for the fact that it truly “feels” that hot.
The KrisFlyer International Sprint (G1), featuring the sensational and beloved Rocket Man goes as the ninth race at approximately 7:50 P.M. with the Singapore Airlines International Cup (G1) at 8:40 P.M. Below is a shot of the first turn at Kranji and it’s incredibly noticable banking.
Last year, Gloria De Campeao established a course record of 1:59.22 for the 2,000 meters trip. Clouds are forming over the course and rain is possible…anything to cool this place down. Kranji’s Strath-Ayr turf course is rated good with a penetrometer rating of 5.0.
